HAWERA.

Dear Bo?, June Ist. THE HOSPITAL BALL held in the Opera House last Friday week passed off splendidly, and was most successful. There was a large number of people present from all parts. The ballroom has never looked so nice before, the decorations being most effective and well carried out. Quantities of flags were hung across the room, and these, back< dby lots of greenery, gave a most pleasing effect. The stage was also very prettily arranged. The greatest credit is due to those ladies who undertook the decorations. The side-room was also much admired, it bring arranged as a drawing-room. A large marquee was erected next to the Opera House, and this was used as a supper-room. The supper was a most delicious one. The music, supplied by Airs. Quin and the Misses Flynn, was e\crything one could wish for. The secretary and ail others connected with the preparations for the ball have every reason to feel proud of their efforts. Amongst those present I noticed:—Mrs. Willis, who was wearing a lovely frock of white embroidered chiffon over a silk foundation, the corsage handsomely trimmed; Miss Duns ford looked very well in black silk, long dove-i-e loured coat, finished with feather trimmings; Miss Caplen, frock of white muslin. inserted with lace; her sister was wearing a frock of th.' same; Miss Flynn, a black toilette, the corsage relieved with creme trimmings; Miss J. Flynn, a dainty frock of white silk, frilled and shirred: Miss Sutton, black siik jet trimmings; Miss Lempfert looked exceedingly well in black silk, prettily trimmed; Miss Latter, very pretty frock of blue silk, trimmed with accordion-pleated chiffon and lacc; Miss. Baird, dainty frock of white silk, frilled; Miss P. Baird, was also wearing white silk; Miss Douglas, creme satin, the skirt trimmed with accordion-pleated frills; Miss Ccutts, white muslin, profusely shirred; Mrs. K. L. Page looked very well in black t-atin; Miss Joseph (Christchurch), a frock of creme silk, relieved with trimmings of vieux* rose silk; Aliss Reilly, dainty gown of white crepe dr chine; Miss C. Reilly, frock of creme voile, gathered ribbon trimmings; .Mrs. Stewart (Normanby), was daintily frocked in white muslin, the frills finished with white bebo ribbon; Miss Jackson (Stratford), ba lek satin; Airs 1). E. Fanthani, ■white muslin, shirred and lace insertion; Miss Hamilton (Manutahi), black satin, the corsage relieved with flowers; Miss Alexander, white net over pink silk; Miss Hailey, whit? silk, frilled; Miss Carey, creme brocade, relieved with old gold velvet; her sister was wearing a dainty frock of pink glace silk, shirred; Miss (Henn, white muslin, frilled and trimmed with bebo ribbon; Mrs. Jury, black satin; Miss Jackson ( Normanby), white muslin; Airs. Turnbull, black silk, white coat, feather trimming. Amongst the gentlemen present were:—Drs.‘Westen ra and Brown. Messrs. Hastie (2), Liddle, Scott, Turnbull, Norton, Turton, Caplin. Atkinson, Parrington. Glenn. Atkins. Douglas, Lovell. Taylor (Manaia). Smith. Piper. Nalder, Larcom, Baird, and many others. A DELIGHTFUL DANCE was given by Mrs. Glenn at Manaia last Tuesday week. The weather was anything but? tine, but nevertheless a large number of guests drove out from 11awera. Mrs. Glenn being famed for her viry delightful dances.- -Mrs. (Henn ami her daughters had gone to no end of trouble, everything possible having been done for the comfort of their guests. The drawing-room was used for dancing, whilst the verandahs were beautifully covered in for sitting out. A very dainty supper was served in the •dining-room. Amongst those present I noticed: —Airs. Glenn, who was wearing a handsome gown of black silk, prettily trimmed; Miss Glenn, a dainty frock of whit/* muslin. prettily frilled; Miss Q. Glenn, was prettily frocked in white silk; Airs. \V.
