NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dear Bee,- July Ist. The people of Fitzroy, who have been thinking seriously for some time past of having a fire brigade station in their growing township, gave A BALL last Tuesday in aid of the funds. It was a. great success. The floor and music were good, while the supper was recherche, the table being prettily deeorated with arum lilies, and in the centre was a large mirror, surrounded with greenery. The hall was decorated with bunting. The Mayor, Mr IL Cock, during the evening made a speech, complimenting this new brigade on the success of their first ball, and hoping it would be an annual affair. The committee who arranged things so admirably were: Mesdames Taunton, Wells, Dockrill, F. Jackson, Steele, F. C. Griffiths, J. IL Kibby, J. Kibby, Sattley, Hardwick, Cathro, IL Bellringer, A. F. Foote, Misses Martin, Brett and Foote, Captain F. E. Griffiths and members of the brigade, and Messrs Kibby, Steele, Weller (fion. secretary) and R. Parkin. Shaiv, Aroa, ete. Last Thursday evening Mr Stanley Paul gave a most ENJOYABLE EUCHRE PARTY to his hoy friends, before leaving for AVcllingtou, w-liere he is going to further study chemistry. There were five tables, Air Hamblin winning first prize (silver mateh-box), and Air Bob Cutfield second (silver photograph frame). /A dainty supper was served in the din-ing-room. At the Masonie Hall. Broughton-street, last Friday evening the teacher- attending the winter classes at the Central School held A VERY* PLILASANT SOCIAL. The weather was sharp and. crisp, just the sort for the invigorating and exhilirating exercise of dancing. The music rendered by Alessr.-. McKinnon B.iiu and Tutsehka .was delightful. Air.- AUsworth acted as hostess, and Alessrs. Spencer, Johnson and Evans acted as ALl'.’s. During the evening several musical items were rendered by Misses Nixon and Hartley, and Alessrs. Dempsey. Johnson, (tray, Spencer, J. Taylor, Hall, Cut field. Harvey, Bennington, Curtis, Allsworth, Bewley, Nixon, etc. Last Wednesday evening a number of friends of Mrs W. Courtney assembled and presented her with a silver cream jug and silver-inounte<l purse ami card-ease combined, as a small token of esteem, before her departure with her husband to Tauranga.
