Dear Bee, May 25. Last Friday afternoon Airs. Nolan gave a most enjoyable “CONUNDRUM” AFTERNOON for her daughter Beryl, who is home for her holidays. Every lady was asked to pin a card on her dress with a conundrum written on it, without the answer. The object was to guess as many of the conundrums as possible, and the lady with the highest number got the prize. Aliss Duigan (Wanganui) proved the lucky one with fifteen correct guesses. Amongst the dresses I noticed: Airs. Nolan, in a black dress, with white trimmings; Aliss Nolan, handsome black voile, the skirt trimmed with accordion frills; Aliss Beryl Nolan, dainty blouse of white silk, pink rosebud pattern, black skirt; Miss Dingle, pale blue voile, smart black chenille hat, trimmed with black feathers; Aliss V. THE DANCE fHW by Mr-. Glean (Manaia) last Saturday night waa an iunueuae success, all thoroughly enjoying themselves. Dunejug started at 7.45 pjn., as it was only kept up until twelve o’clock. It was mu»t fortunate it turned out such a fine night, as quite a large number of people went out from Hawera. The music supplied by Mine Connell could not have been better, and the floor was in splendid order for dancing. Extras were played by Mrs. 4Dr.) Good, Misses Young, Brett, Day and Connell. As far as 1 can remember, the dresses were: Mrs. Glenn, handsome black dress, Maltese Ince trimmings; Miss Glenn, black silk, with silver trimmings; Miss Queenie Glenn, dainty white muslin, with touches of red; Mrs. J. Glenn (Timaru), white silk, herring-bone trimming; Mrs. W. Glenn, black silk, chiffon trimmings; Miss Young, yellow silk; Miss Hastie, white muslin trimmed with pink silk; Miss Mewing, red silk blouse, trimmed with eeru lace, handkerchief sleeves of red net, black skirt; Miss Day, dainty white silk, trimmed with tulle; Miss Duigan, white embroidered muslin; Miss Douglas. liandsome cream satin, the skirt trimmed with accordion frills, the bodiee trimmed with red roses; Miss Caplen, black dress, pale blue eoat, ecru insertion trimmings; her sister wore a soft white silk, with touches of blue; Miss Baird, black silk, white trimmings; Miss P. Baird wore a white silk, profusely tucked ami trimmed with chiffon; Miss Brett, white dress, trimmed with red poppies; Miss V. Brett, white tueked silk, the bodice trimmed with violets and chiffon; Miss Coutts pink silk blouse, trimmed with Maltese lace, black skirt; Miss N. Coutts, frilled white muslin, the bodice trimmed with pink; Miss White, yellow silk, trimmed with black bebe ribbon; Miss Stringer, white tucked silk; Miss B. Nolan, white muslin; Mrs. (Dr.) Good wore black, with touches of white. Amongst the gentlemen were: Messrs. Glenn (4), Burke, Poole, Lizst, Aitken, Dr. Good, Norton, Kenny, Liddle, Douglas, Cooper, Parsons, Mitchell (2). Parrington, Turnbull, Parkinson, Baird, Tonks, Fraser, Caplen, etc. The Hawera Golf Club seems to be

thoroughly eslalji-lwl now, judging by the sueeesnful meeting held last Wednesday. The committee has aeeided to build a clubhouse on the '‘Burnside’’ links, which are in splendid order this year.

Misses Brewer and Cut field have sold their interest in the "Kapai” tea rooms to the Misses Baird, who start ou the Ist of June.
