Mr Robert Dunean Lockhart has the sincere congratulations of his many friends in Christchurch on his succession to the title of his late uncle, General Sir Graeme Alexander Sinclair Lockhart, Baronet. During his residence amongst us he was a member of the stat! of the Bank of New Zealand, a connection which lasted over 20 years, but was severed some three years ago when ho joined the firm of Wakelin and Co., carrying on business as auctioneers at Whangarei, and in which Mr Lockhart is now a partner. It is also gratifying to hear there is a substantial income goes with the title. Mrs Guthrie Moore, “Te Maire,” Papa uui-road, was AT HOME on Friday, when afternoon tea was enjoyed on the lawn and several games of croquet indulged in. Some of those present were Mrs W. Stringer, Mrs Kohn, Mrs Coverdale, Mrs Croxton, Mrs T. Garrard, Mrs 11. Quane. Mrs C. D. Morris, Mrs Mcßride, Miss Morris, Miss Barraud (Wellington), Mrs Gordon, etc. A FAREWELL WALKING PARTY was got up for Mrs and Miss Waymouth, about 20 of last winter’s walking party, being invited. Great regret is felt at the thought of losing Mrs and Miss

Waymouth from our midst this winter but we are looking forward to a happy reunion the following one. Among those invited were, beside Mrs and Miss Waymouth, Mrs Chilton, Mrs K. Garriek, Mrs V. Hargreaves, Mrs Titacker, Mrs T. Garrard, the Misses MeClatchie, Berkeley, Mace, BarrauJ, Wilson (3), Garforth, Dr. Jessie Maddison and one or two more. The walk was over the hill from Lyttelton to Sumner, where afternoon tea was much appreciated in Drew’s garden. Mrs Wigram entertained some of her friends at A BRIDGE PARTY on Friday evening at her residence. Park Terrace. All greatly enjoyed the evening, which finished with a dainty supper. Among the players were Mrs J. Gould, Mrs J. C. Palmer, Mrs J. D. Hall, Mrs Pyne, Mrs G. Gould, Mrs Wardrop, Mrs Lee, Mrs P. Campbell, Mrs Randall, Misses Lee, Reeves, Mur-ray-Aynsley, etc. Mrs C. Louisson’s croquet party on Tuesday was completely spoiled by the incessant downpour of rain, but there was just one thing, there was no uncertainty about it. Mrs Leicester Watson gave a small children’s party on Saturday afternoon, when the little people had great games and a sumptuous tea, ail being sorry when night came on.

Mrs Diamond gave a large afternoon tea as a farewell to Mrs Thaeker, who leaves this week for a year’s visit to England. (
