LAWN TENNIS.
WEST END LAWN TEN’XIs Cl.l’B.
The thirteenth annual meeting of the West End lawn Tennis Club was held last week in the Fonsonby Hall. The lion, secretary. Mr. H. McCoy. read the annual report, which showed the club to be in a flourishing condition. The membership roll had reached the limit. The club was still the proud retainer of the lady ami gentleman championships for the Auckland province. The hon. treasurer. Mr. W. H. Burton, read the bal-ance-sheet. which disclosed a small credit balance. notwithstanding the large amount spent on improving the lawns during the winter reee-s. The election of officers resulted as follows: President. -Mr. C. J. Parr (re-elected); vice-presi-dents, Bishop Lenihan. Ven. Archdeacon Calder, Dr. Hood. Messrs. -I. Kirker. .1. H. I’pton. John Court. J. Hodgson. \. fattier, P. Darby. E. R. Foster. W. Hut chinson, A. S. Russell, W. J. Napier. T. W. Davis; hon. secretary. Mr. W. A. Brown; hon. treasurer. Mr. 11. A spirited discussion took place with reference to classifying of players.aud the incoming committee were instructed to take such steps as thev deemed neccs sary to improve the standard of plav. al the same time considering the welfare of all members. A number of n.-w mem bers were nominated for election. Votes of thanks were accorded to the outgoing committees. A special vote of thanks wa- tended to tin- ground superintendent. Mr. J. Paterson, and on behalf of the club the president presented him with a handsome case of pipes as a slight token of the members’ appreciation of his valu abb* service?.
