Dear Bee, May 14. On Thursday, 7th, Mrs John Stevenson received at her pretty home in Bellstreet, her drawing-room being a bower of beautiful chrysanthemums. She wore, an elegant costume of white tucked voile, with accordian-pleated flounces and lace trimmings. Amongst those present were: Mrs Blundell, black serge gown, with twine colour lace collar and soft figured net front and sleeves, black hat with blue forget-me-nots; Mrs Hardcastle, black costume and bonnet; Mrs Janisch, Koval blue frock, Paris coloured lace trimmings, black feather hat: Mrs Wray, dainty blue grey tweed, with toque to match; Mrs John Anderson, fawn tweed Russian blouse, strapped, 'black hat; Mrs Wickham, navy blue skirt, grey coat, and toque to match; Mrs Heywood, black costume, strapped with silk, black hat; Miss Brewer, black and white gown, with applique collar and revers, cream silk vest, and black hat with feathery rosettes; Miss Raines (Christchurch), olack, greycoat, burnt straw hat trimmed with spotted silk; Miss Izard, navy blue her-ring-bone tweed eoat and skirt, black hat, relieved with pink; Miss W. Anderson, cornflower blue frock. Russian blouse with gold buttons, and Paris coloured lace collar, crimson hat; Miss Morgan, black skirt and deep red coat; Miss McDonnel, black skirt, grey coat, black hat with chenille and large brilliant buckle.

On Wednesday, 13th, the Misses Morecroft held the first of their series of dances in the Assembly- Rooms, the whole hall looked most inviting, being beautifully decorated with palms, ferns, and all kinds of greenery, with mirrors at intervals. The supper was most re--cherche, and the floor and music left nothing- to be desired. Owing to the prevailing w-ct weather, the attendance of country visitors was not as large as expected; that fact may also have accounted for the unusually large predominance of black costumes worn. Jones, a stylish gown of rich black satin, trimmed with jet and sprays of pink roses on the bodice; Miss Cowper, black silk frock, with chiffon; Miss Warmington, handsome black satin costume; Miss McNeil, black velvet gown, with real laee trimmings; Miss Young, soft white silk, with tucks and cream insertion; Miss Bailie (New Plymouth), a smart frock of tueked black silk; Miss Baker, pretty black satin, with white chiffon trimmings; Miss F. Morecroft, smart gown of tucked black silk, with rich cream ’ace; Miss Campbell, soft black silk frock, relieved with Paris coloured insertion; Miss Anderson, black satin, with soft cream lace and flowers. Amongst the men were Dr. Barnard, Messrs Wood (2), 11. Montgomerie, Blair (2), Mackay, G. Saunders, Mountfort, and others.

Miss Raine, of Christchurch, is the guest of Miss Izard. Mrs and Miss McLean are visiting friends in Wellington, Greytown, and Masterton. Mrs F. R. Jackson is staying with Mr L. Jackson, in Dannevirke. Miss Kennsington (Wellington) is visiting her uncle, Mr Eyre-Kenny, while Mrs Eyre-Kenny is in Nelson. Mrs Wood is the guest of Mrs Mellsopp (Palmerston North). Miss Earle has returned from a visit to Mrs (Dr.) Skernianp (Marton). Mr and Mrs Greenwood and family are spending the holidays at Castlecliff, Wanganui. Miss Aitken has returned from a visit to Mrs Malcolm Elder (Marton). Miss Jessie Marshall, ‘-'Grove House,” St. John's

Hill, Wanganui, has returned from a visit to Mr and Mrs P. Marshall (Dune<tin). Mrs W. Humphreys has returned to Kawhia after a round of visits in Wanganui, Rangitikei, and Woodville. Miss Baker (Dunedin) is the guest of Mrs John Stevenson. Mrs 11. Addenbrookc is visiting Auckland and Rotorua. Mr and Mrs Corry are spending a month at Rotorua. Mrs Clay has returned from a visit to Hunterville, where she was the guest of Mrs Hammond. Mr E. Jollie, formerly of Patea, and lately returned from South Africa, is on a visit to Mrs Christie and Mrs Wray. Mrs John Mason has returned from Hawera, where she has been visiting Mrs Lysaght, “Mokoia,” Mrs (Dr.) Westenra, and Mrs Gill Carey.
