NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dear Bee, June 21. The City Band held their annual SOCIAL in the Theatre Royal last Thursday evening, and was most enjoyable. The floor was in excellent order, and the music, by Mr Bain’s orchestra, couldn’t have been better. The supper tables were an extremely pretty sight, decorated with large stands of ferns and greenery, with tiny flags intermingled, and runuing down the centre of the tables were the National colours, all of which was done by Mrs H. Cottier and Miss J. Cottier. Great credit is due to Mr Frank Newell (hon. sec.) for the way in which everything was carried out, and during the evening Mr Dockrill (the Mayor) took the opportunity to present the former with a case of pipes from the bandsmen in appreciation of his valuable services, which were done so willingly and pleasantly. Among those present were Miss Lewis, black silk, trimmed with black and white chiffon; Miss Pearce, white muslin, relieved with scarlet velvet ; Miss — Pearce, white and heliotrope sash; Miss L. Gardner, pretty cream silk blouse, dark skirt; Miss Page, dark skirt, pink silk blouse; Mrs W. Jury, white muslin; Miss Loveridge, cream and pink trimmings; Miss Weller, cream with satin ribbon trimmings; Miss Loveridge, white muslin, trimmed with green; Miss Flynn, green and white; Miss Nicholls, pretty flowered muslin; Miss — Weller, cream; Miss Christenson, cream and green chiffon trimmings; Miss Lash, cream and green ribbon streamers; Miss Marten, cream, trimmed with pale blue and lace; her sister wore cream and pink; Miss Joiner, blue with pink satin trimmings; Miss Delaine (Auckland),cream and yellow ribbons; Miss I. Hill, grey skirt, pretty cream silk blouse; Mrs Parker, pink silk blouse, dark skirt; Miss Neary looked well iu pale pink, banded with black velvet; Mrs Frank Newell, pretty heliotrope silk blouse, black skirt; Mrs Hetrick, pretty dress of white muslin over pink; Miss Edgcumbe, cream blouse, dark skirt; etc.; and Messrs Dockrill (Mayor), HL W. Cottier, Arnoldt, W. Donohue, Knight, Ford, Bilderhick, Seford, Rielly, W. Free. Buxton 1 , W. Treeby, Edgcumbe, Avery, Crombie, McEwen, Ashton, Parke/, Duyer, Thomson, Hawkins. The members of the band were: Messrs Haigh (bandmaster), F. Newell (secretary), Dunovan, W. Horne, A. Hoskin, F. Forrest, Coleman, W. Nichols, Flatt, F. Coleman, F. W. McComish. H. Skelton, Coulthard, W. Coleman. T. Hughes, L. Heatley, R. Edwards, C. Wilson, H. Guest, A. Nash, and C. Bullock. The Ladies’ Committee consisted of Mesdames Dockrill, E. M. Smith, S. Hill, Frank Newell and Haigh, and Miss Nicholls, who worked so untiringly to make the social a success. Messrs F. Thomson and F. W. McComish acted as M.C.’s.
