Dear Bee, September 12. In my letter of last week I quite forgot to mention a small AFTERNOON TEA which Mr# Oat way gave for Mias Stephenson at her rooms in Wain # Hotel. The table was very prettily decorated with daffodils and yellow primroses. There was a great deal of charming music during the afternoon. Mrs Oat way herself performing several times. Some I remember pre*ent were Mias Stephenson. Miaees Tui and Kate Stephenson. Mis# Edmond*. Mias Maude Sise. Mias Robert*. Mias L Robert*. Mia* Cutten. Mias Scott, Mias Reynold*. Mi<« Gilkison. Mias E. Neill. Miss Farquhar, Mxsr MacLean. and a few married ladies. On Monday afternoon Mias Rachel Reynolds entertained a number of friends at AFTERNOON TEA for Mia* Miller (Oamarm who is paying a short visit to Dunedin. Both the tea-table azd drawing room were exquisitely decorated

with pot hyacinths and jonquils. Mr* Denniston received the guest* in the drawingroom, while Mis# Reynolds and Mias F. I>enni*ton looked after the want* of the guest* in the tea-room. Song* were given by Miss Reynold*. Mis* Mac Lean. Miss Greenwood. Miss E’hel Neill. Mis* Cotten and one or two others. Mia* Maea**ey played a pianoforte solo with great style. A few pretty spring eo>tume* were worn, but the majority of the people were in their winter garments. Mrs Denniston, wore back figured cloth trimmed with black velvet: Mr* Donald (Riveradalei. electric blue velvet handsomely trimmed with jet ; Mrs MacGowan. blue serge costume, black toque trimmed with blue forget-me-noLs; Miss R, Reynolds, green cloth prettily trimmed with b’ack satin and jet: Mis* F. Denniston, pink print blouse, black skirt ; Mia* B. Farquhar, black serge, heliotrope blouse: white sailor hat: Mias Miller lOamaruL black cloth costume. pink blouse, white sailor hat Miss Web* ter. fawn cloth jacket and skin, black chip toque: Miss G. Webster, black serge tailor-made costume, white hat: Miss B. Mac Lean. blue serge costume, tweed waistcoat, white chip hat trimmed with cream chiffon and red poppie*; Mis* G. Rattray, white sniped siik blouse, black skirt; Mis* S. Rattray ; Miss Neill, blue striped silk blouse with vest of white silk covered with white chiffon, black velvet hat with pink flowers: Misses E Ulrich, Gibson. Bartieman. S. Bartleman. Williams, Stephenson. D. Neill, Macwssey. and many others. On Thursday evening Messrs George and Charlie Roberts gave a LARGE DANCE at * Littlebourne House' as a farewell ball to Dunedinites before Mr Charles leaves for England. Dancing commenced at half-past eight, and was kept up with great rerre until about two o'clock, when ‘Auld Lang Syne ' was sung, and the guests then dispersed after having enjoyed one of the best dances given this winter. Tnc bouse looked as pretty a* usual. There were on all the gas jets scarier shades, which produced a very effective light. Mr Yates officiated at the piano, arid extras were played by Misses S. Webster. E. Macas*ey. and Miss Miller fOamaru!. The supper - table was simply a mass of yellow jonquils and daffodils. In the centre of the of the table was a large silver tx>wi filled with the above mentioned flowers. The drawing-room was tastefully decorated with pot plants, ferns, spring flowers, etc. Some present were Mr* Macassey in black spotteaisilk. full mifieof white chiffon : Mrs Mac Lean. electric blue corded silk covered with black lace ; Mr* Dowling, handsome grey shot silk heavily trimmed with steel spangles : Mis* Roberts, old-rose, pink satin trimmed with passementerie: MissL. Empire style ; Miss Webster, heliotrope surah silk trimmed with black chiffon and jet: Miss Webster, black silk, black net fichu: Mis* Shand, black spotted lustre, the bodice trimmed with lace and bunches of pink poppie* : Mis® S. Ulrich, black silk, blue bodice, black chiffon fichu; Miss S. Graham, black brocade, white silk bodice: Miss Gross (Sydney). old-rose pink, white lace trimmings: Miss Miller (Oatnarui. handsome blue brocade, the bodice lavishly trimmed with white pleated chiffon : Miss MacLean cream corded silk wuth bunches of white flower* on bodice: Miss Macassey. gray crepon trimmed with white swansdown and chiffon : Miss Graham, grey corded silk : Miss F. Mac Lean. white surah silk : Miss M. Maitland, white crepon with bunches of flowers on the bodice : Miss J. Rattray, cream merveilleux. the bodice covered with white chiffon: Miss Greenwood, yellow Liberty silk trimmed with passementerie : Mr* Williams, cream surah silk: Mis* S. Bartieman. salmonpink and swansdown : Miss E. Batchelor, cream silk covered with cream net. and banded with yellow satin ribbon : Miss T.
