Dear Bee. May 22. I am glad to say that there is more news for you this week. I will begin with the RARI KORE DANCE, which was held last Friday night at Thomas’ Hall. The ballroom was most effectively decorat-d with flags and green- ry. The supper table looked very pretty, and was arranged with sky-blue crinkled paper and vases of rich dark chrysanthemums. The badge of the Club (two blues) was worn by each of our hosts across his shirt, and looked very well against the wnite. Among those present I noticed Mrs Fitchett, who wore a handsome black and yellow silk English gown : Mrs Findlay, black silk trimmed with black lace ana red flowers; Mrs Miles, handsome black satin gown trimmed with jet: Mrs Stafford, rich claret velvet gown trimmed with jet embroidery and lace; Mrs Hales, black satin, the bodice being veiled with the new sequin trimming: Miss Mee. pretty white brocade trimmed with lace and lilies of the valley; Miss Luckie, pale pink silk with frills of chiffon to match; Miss Barbor, pale blue satin with bertha of deep white lace: her sister were amber silk; Miss Seed, white satin veiled with black spotted net and trimmed with white flowers ; Miss M. Seed, pale blue silk trimmed witn black ; Miss Pownall. pale green silk ; Miss Holt, cream gown of some soft material brightened with scarlet bows; MissTringham.handsome cream brocade gown trimmtd with chiffon : Miss Simpson wore a pretty cerise velvet gown trimmed with chiffon to match : Miss Widdop, black velvet; Miss Seddon. pale pink silk trimmed with bronze passementerie; Miss Tuckey. black : Miss Stringer, cream satin and lace; Miss Edwards, boitle-green satin gown trimmed with velvet and passementerie ; Miss Blundell, grey silk relieved with fine black lace ; her sister wore black velvet brightened with red : Miss Williams, black velvet with bertha of white lace ; Miss E. Among the gentlemen I noticed the Messrs Reid. Tuckey. Rose, C. Cooper. Harcourt, Ross. Wood. Pownall. Higginson. Didsbury, Stafford, Hales, Luckie, Hume, Burnes, and many others. THE PERMANENT ARTILLERY BALL, given in aid of the Brunncrton Relief Fund is the next on my list. It was held in the Drill-Shed on the same night. The decorations on this occasion were also splendid, consisting of bunting and greenery. The Premier and Mrs Seddon were present, also Mr Fisher (Mayor) and Mrs Fisher. Sir Arthur and Lady Douglas, Colonel and Mrs Fox, Captain and Mrs Paterson, and many others. Mrs Friend was lat home ’ to her friends on Thursday. Afternoon teas are greatly appreciated in this cold weather. It is always so nice to be able to turn into somebody’s cosy rooms and have the usual delicious hot tea and cakes. Mrs Friend received her guests in a handsome black silk crepon gown trimmed with jet; Miss Friend wore a pretty pale blue silk blouse, dark crepon skirt. A few guests I noticed were Mrs Grace, who wore a black cloth jacket and skirt, silk waistcoat, gold bonnet trimmed with violets ; Miss Grace, black cloth tailor-made costume, sailor hat: Miss Alice Grace, violet cloth gown braided with black, large black velvet hat with high plumes and ecru lace ; Mrs Tolhurst, dark cloth costume, pretty bronze sequin bonnet trimmed with flowered ribbon to match; Miss Tolhurst, brown crepon with front of pompadour silk, stylish toque to match; Lady Stout, black crepon dress, toque to match trimmed with scarlet velvet; Mrs H. D. Bell, tabac brown tailor-made costume, jet toque trimmed with violets ; Miss Chapman. blue cloth jacket and skirt, large Leghorn hat trimmed with black feathers; Miss L. Chapman, similar costume, large black hat with plumes; Miss MacLaren, fawn gown trimmed with black ribbon, white sailor hat; the Misses Rose, black crepon skirts, check silk blouses, black hats trimmed with cornflowers; Miss A. Gore, fawn cloth skirt, silk blouse to match with lace collar, black velvet hat trimmed with tips : Mrs Beddard. black crepon skirt, flowered silk blouse, pretty black velvet hat trimmed with white flowers and black feathers; Mrs Higginson, black costume, silver bonnet trimmed with pinK roses : Lady Douglas, black silk gown with white fichu, bonnet trimmed with li ac; Mrs Barron, slate grey jacket and skirt, check waistcoat, black bonnet brightened with bright pink flowers; the Misses Barron wore neat jacketsand skirts, toques to match: Miss Brandon, peacock blue costume trimmed with flowered brocade, black hat trimmed with ribbon to match : Mrs Quick, Miss Quick, brown tweed gown, straw hat to match trimmed with brown feathers; Miss Holmes, Mrs Goring. Mrs and the Misses Stowe. Mrs A. Brandon, Mrs Rhind, and the Messrs Minnett, Johnston, Duncan. Williams, Higginson, Gore, Pearce, Hartman, Hodson, etc. Mrs Hales, of Oriental Bay, also gave a SMALL EVENING PARTY on Thursday, when euchre and music were kept going merrily. Mrs Hales wore a handsome black satin gown effectively trimmed with black and white satin A few of her gue-ts were the Misses Simpson. Fairchild. Bendall. Higgle, Wilson, and Tringham. A very enjoyable social was given by the Government Insurance Literary Social Club last Saturday night in the Insurance buildings. The Premier and Mrs Seddon were present, the latter wearing a handsome black silk, with bertha of white lace ; Miss Seddon. soft white silk and lace: Miss M. Seddon also wore white. Others present were Mrs Fox, Mrs and Miss Luckie, Mrs and Miss Richardson, etc. Ophklia Dear Bee, May 22 On Thursday afternoon Mrs Newman and Mrs Friend both gave afternoon teas, many of the guests being present at both functions, so that a description of one party will almost do for the other. Mrs Newman s AFTERNOON TEA was given in honour of Mrs Saunders, of Wanganui. Mrs Newman was very stylishly dressed in dark blue alpaca coat and skirt with vest and re vers of white satin. She was assisted by Misses E. Johnston, and Una and Githa William-*, who presided over the refreshments. Mrs Abbot wore a black dress, short black velvet cape with white throat ruffle and gold bonnet; Mrs Barron, dark blue gown: the Misses Barron, in smart tailor costumes: Mrs Baldwin, blue costume edged with astrachan; Mrs Brandon, electric blue coat and skirt, silk vest, bonnet to match ; Mrs Geo. Campbell, brown dress, velvet cloak edged with fur. and brown bonnet: Lady Douglas wore a handsome crepon with full white fichu, jet bonnet; Mrs Ferguson, grey tailor costume, black velvet hat; Mrs Grace, dark blue gown, and small gold bonnet; Mrs Goring, electric blue cloth costume, small toque with two upstanding green birds ; Mrs Higginson, black, and violet-covered bonnet; Mrs Hood (Mastertom, brown dress, hat to match with orange wings ; Mrs Johnston, blue tailor gown braided in black, small black and yellow bonnet; Miss Nunnely. dark green costume. black velvet hat; Mrs Moorhouse, black : Mrs O’Connor, Mrs A. Pearce, Mrs Pynsent, handsome black brocaded dress,

white and gold bonnet; Mrs Rhind, black coat and skirt, white vest with bars of black passementerie, black bonnet with red bows: Mrs Saunders, bronzy-brown dress, fur cape and brown bonnet with red roses; etc. Mrs Davy gave a very pleasant AFTERNOON TEA in honour of the Misses Richmond and Baber, two ladies who attach the distinctive letters M.A. to their names, and have come here with the intention of establishing classes for ‘ coaching' students in all branches of education. Mrs Davy’s invitations to meet these two guests were accepted with much eagerness, and a very pleasant two hours were spent. Mrs Davy wore a handsome black cloth dress trimmed with silk ; Miss Davy dark skirt, and soft cream silk blouse ; Miss E. Davy, black skirt, pretty blouse of white silk with red stripes; Miss L. Davy, black crepon, and crimson shot with brown blouse: Miss Baber wore a dark blue costume and sailor hat; Miss Richmond, in a black cloth costume with large smoke buttons, and black hat. Among the guests were Miss Kebbell, Mrs C. Knight, who wore a dark brown dress with Gobelin blue silk trimmings under lace insertion, brown hat; Mrs M.
