Dear Cousin Kate.—l don’t know what excuse to offer for not having written before, but hope that you kiZZ excuse me. I have been away for nearly two months staying at Woodlands, Wairoa South. When I returned about three weeks ago I was talking about the Graphic and said that I intended writing to you as soon as possible. Then one of my sisters informed me that a collecting card had come for me, but it had been mislaid and could not be found anywhere. I have hunted in

every possible nook and corner, but without success. Enclosed are some stamps for the child’s cot. I got them with this week’s pocket money, and hope they are not too late. Is’nt it dreadfully hot ? I wonder if any part of the world is warmer than this. If so I pity the inhabitants, don’t you ? We have not done any boating for a long time. I have not been to the lake for over nine months. Hoping this weather has not proved too much for yen — I remain, dear cousin Kate, yours truly, Ivy. [Thank you for the shilling and for your letter. I have sent you another card, and wish you better luck with it. You only put a halfpenny stamp on your letter and closed it up, consequently we had to pay 3d on it, and I was gently reminded that other cousins had done the same. In your case, the letter was left at the Post Office till they had asked me whether it was to be paid for and claimed! But on condition I warned the cousins, I was allowed my letter. Hot! Yes, I should think it was ! especially in town ! I have been nearly melted away to-day, but as it is nearly nine o’clock at night the atmosphere is cooling somewhat. I have had a pen in my hand all day, and like Cousin Jack, must own I haven’t an idea left.—Cousin Kate.]
