BLENHEIM.

Dear Bee, ‘August 29. THE ANNUAL SOCIAL of the Blenheim Rowing Club was held last night in Ewart’s Hal>, and though capitally managed and most enjoyable, can hardly have been a financial success, for the attendance was far below the average. It was a dreadfully wet and windy night, which doubtless kept some people away, but hardly accounted for the absence of many connected with the Club. Numbers of people use the Club's pleasure boats during the summer and get a great deal of enjoyment out of them (for nothing), and yet they will net help the Club by attending the social, or at least buying a ticket, which seems very bad taste. From a dancing point of view the evening was most enjoyable, and the ball was kept up w r ith great spirit till an early hour this morning. Mr Vannini’s string band, as usual, gave every satisfaction, and the floor, though somewhat heavy at iirst, greatly improved later on. The hall was effectively and appropriately decorated with flags and oars, while racing skiffs were suspended from the ceiling with excellent effect. The supper was quite a triumph, and the varied dainties were much enjoyed. Special mention must be made of the delicious claret cup and excellent oyster soup. The table was charmingly decorated with pale blue ponge and quantities of sweet spring flowers, chiefly yellow’. A large mirror formed the centrepiece, and reflected the flowers, foliage, and fairy lights. Mrs Greenfield was charming in a becoming cream silk ?;own, well made, the corsage draped with lace and pearls, negigee of fragrant violets, antique pearl necklace; Miss Gordon was excessively admired in a stylish and well-cut gown of creamy white, graceful sleeves of soft silk, and revers edged with blond lace, in which she looked very graceful; Miss Rees wore a most becoming black silk gown, bodice of plush and jet, corsage and sleeves of transparent jetted chiffon; Mrs C. Earp, ruby si’k and velvet; Miss Maud Carey, yellow and black ; Miss Amy Fiven, butterup yellow; Miss L. Nosworthy, red; Mrs Powell looked very well in black; Mrs F. Litchfield, black silk and jet; the Misses Draper, cream and green ; Miss Emma Carey.sea green ; Miss M. Ewart, yellow; Miss Muir looked handsome in black silk and velvet with sequin chiffon, yellow flowers.

Sincerity.
