Dear Bee, August 28. Last Thursday being the last day of the present term, there was an exhibition at the boys' college of the cadets, and of t he Club exercise and place-kicking. Special prizes had been offered for the squad who performed their drill in the smartest manner, and this was won by Sergeant A. Adams' squad. The prize for beat squad commander being won by Sergeant P. Mules. The different squads were put through the physical, manual, and bayonet exercise, and the way in which they performed them reflected great credit upon their excellent Instructor. Mr Littlejohn. The judges were Messrs Littlejohn. Broad and Cooke. A number of parents and friends of the boys had assembled to witness the proceedings, and these were regaled with delicious tea. cakes, etc . during the intervals, for which they were very grateful, it being a very cold day “ Some of those present were Bishop and Mrs Mules. At the last hour almost fresh soloists bad to be chosen for two of the leading parts, as those who were to have taken them were prevented doing so. The admission was very small, and the proceeds went towards the library at the Girls’ College. Only the fair sex were admitted, as it would not have done, nh, dear! no, for the sterner sex to have witnessed such a performance. Just fancy the poor things’ feelings, when they saw what their fair sisters were meditating in the years to come. However, although the male element was exempted, we did fairly well in filling up their vacancies, and the large lecture room was quite packed. The play I have told you of before. Some of those who were present were Mesdames Mackay, Roberts, R. Kingdon. Bunny, Broad. Fell. Atkinson, Robinson. Blackett, Pitt, Sealy, Bell. Baddeley (Greymouth). Misses Pitt, Levien, Poole (two), Wood, Bell (two), Curtis, Catley, Huddleston, Gibson, Watt, Higgins, Cachmaille, Burnett, Gibbs, etc. On Wednesday the pupils’ concert in connection with the School of Music was given in the Harmonic Hall. Although a bad night, our long-wished-for rain having come at last, still a number of parents and friends assembled to see what progress had been made during the term. A long and classical programme was gone through, and with great credit to all the performers, some of whom were quite young children. Among others present I noticed Judge and Mrs Robinson. Mr and Mrs Cock, Mr and Mrs Pitt Mesdames Webb-Bowen, Broad, Perrin, Houlker, N. Raine. W. Route, Misses Watt, Catley. Huddleston, Gribben. Sealy (two). Broad, Webb-Bowen, Poole (two), Pitt (two).
