Dear Bee, June 4. I have not much to tell you of this week. MISS SEYMOUR’S DANCE was, as you will see elsewhere, successful, though the night was wet. I thought many of the ladies’ dresses very pretty, and Miss Seymour was looking particularly handsome and distingui in very dark blue velvet, made perfectly plain with a long train, and white muslin and lace balayeuse, the low pointed bodice being trimmed with dull jet ; Mrs C. Watts was much admired in a lovely pale coral pink silk, made with train and long tabbed bodice, and pretty puffed and slashed elbow sleeves, her hair becomingly dressed a la Mary Anderson with small wreath of pink leaves, beautiful cream brocade opera cloak with ostrich feather trimming; Mrs Cleghorn looked very pretty in pink striped silk gauze over satin ; Miss B Atkinson (Nelson) was charming in canary crepe cloth stylishly made in the Princess style buttoningunderthearm, and very long train trimmed prettily; Miss Rees looked very nice in a pretty white broche gown, the plain gored and trained skirt bordered with a tiny frill, and the low bodice finished off with white beading and real lace frill, tan shoes ; Mrs J. Mowat wore becoming black lace with white chiffon frills ; Mrs Conolly, soft white silk, the low bodice most prettily draped with lovely white embroidered chiffon; Mrs C. Earp, black evening dress, hairdressed low down in a coil, pink striped silk opera cloak with white fur ; Mrs Fitzgerald, very handsome black satin and jet, with full cream satin vest; Miss J. Pitt (Nelson), well fitting white cashmere with handsome lace flounce ; Miss Mellish (Picton), geranium red gown, which suited her colouring wonderfully well, becoming dark red plush opera wrap trimmed with grey fur and lined with red satin ; Mrs Hiley was wearing a handsome sky blue silk draped with ficelle-coloured lace, crimson broche silk opera cloak ; Mrs Thompson, black silk and net with yellow ribbons, lovely sky blue silk opera wrap braided with gold ; Miss Mary Seymour (Picton) black with yellow chiffon and ribbons ; Miss Isabel Seymour (Picton) soft white silk prettily drawn ; Miss Mary Farmar wore a pretty new pink nun’s veiling (a lovely shade), the bodice prettily trimmed with frills and folds of pink silk ; Miss L. Farmar, her becoming bine frock ; Miss Parsons (Kaikoura) who is staying with Mrs J. Mowat, white muslin and blue ribbons ; Miss F. Smith, ficelle lace with pink sash and bows ; Miss Chaytor, white with neglige and posy of lovely violets; Miss Elinor Chaytor, fine white embroidered m uslin and posy of sweet pin k roses and foliage; Miss Carey, pale yellow tulle ; Miss Smallbone, pink, prettily trimmed with ribbons and chiffon to match.
