AN ODD NAME.
The following is vouched for as accurate. A sailor's wife brought her child to church to be baptized, and gave in to the astonished curate the child's name ‘Hy.-vna.’ The clergyman refused to affix so marvellous a name, and the wife, conscious of accuracy, refused to suggest any other, an<l went off to fetch her husband. He appeared in due time, and explained : • These women never understand things properly. It was Joseph-i-e-na I told her.’
‘ Why, Hettie,’ said her mother, coming in to see her newly-married daughter unexpectedly one evening, • how is it you are alone ? John certainly didn't let you pass your evenings by yourself when he was courting you.’ ‘No, mamma : but ever since we were married I'm beginning to find him out more and more.*
