NEW SUMMER COSTUMES FROM THE LADIES' DRESS ASSOCIATION.

(SEE FASHION-PLATE, PAGE 17.) New ideas applied to dresses for ordinary day wear are always most acceptable. At the Ladies’ Dress Association onr artist has sketched three costumes which are remarkably pretty and graceful, as well as decidedly original in treatment. No. lis a dress of dark blue popeline. The skirt is ’ hemmed with red surmounted by a band of gold. The bodice has a wide centaur-like felt of red, haired across with lines of dark blue, and outlined with gold. The upper portion of the bodice and the sleeves are foil. There is a neat sleeveless jacket provided for outdoor wear. No. 2 is a dress of thin grey fancy material, with a woven design in half moons, shaded from grey to nearly white. It is cut in one, and brought up in a pinafore fashion over a yoke and sleeves of biscuit-coloured cloth, with a design of foliage outlined in a tracery of white and gold. The drapery of the overdress takes quite classical lines, and the effect is most graceful and becoming to the figure. No. 3 is a rich looking and unusual gown in squares of silk and satin carried out in bronze green and dark blue. The back of the bodice is covered with guipure lace like a rich embroidery, in cream colour. This forms pretty-shaped zouaves in front, and it is finished at the waist with a pleated band of silk fitted into a buckle of oxidised silver and brass.
