LONDON AND PARIS FASHIONS.

THE NEWEST STYLES IN HATS. Description of Plate No. I. (See Fashion Plate.) No. 1 is a lovely hat of heliotrope velvet with a perfectly flat crown, the latter being altogether concealed under three or four panoquets’ wings in vivid shades of green. The brim of this hat is bent in and out in all directions, and the crown is timmed in front with a small upright bow of green ribbon. No. 2 is an Empire hat in a new and somewhat brilliant shade of green velvet. The wide poke brim is ornamented with line after line of gold silk-covered wire, the said lines vanishing, away to nothing at the back. The crown is very simply trimmed with a cluster of ostrich tips shading from dark green to palest gold. No. 3 is a most charming little Henri Quatre hat, with a picturesque soft crown of black velvet, ornamented with black velvet ribbon bows, and trimmed with three or four nasturtium-coloured long ostrich feathers, which curl over the brim and droop towards the face in a quaint but very becoming fashion. No. 4 is a soft brown hat with an upper surface of felt and a lining of beaver. Graceful folds of brown velvet drape the crown, while the trimming is completed by brown and white shaded wings, two of which rest flatly on the brim in front on either side of the folds of brown velvet. No. 5 is a very, wide-brimmed shape in pale grey felt made quite on the lines of the old Cavalier hats, worn in the days of Charles 11. A wide band of cream-white ostrich feathers is laid flatly upon the brim, while at the back the crown is half-hidden under drooping plumes of cream-white ostrich feathers.
