THE TRUE TALE OF A TAILLESS CAT.

Do you know what a Manx cat is I No. Well, it i- a at that ba- no tail at ail. There waa one dear Manx cut called ■ Sam ’ which belonged to a lady. He was sent to her f**r v Christma-present last year w hen he wa.- only -ix week«4d. He k»ked so very funny that when he wa- taken out of the hamper evervone burst oat laughina. Hi- hint cuarter- were higher than the front leg-, and were -■ even when he was quite grow-n up. He was quite Idaek. and they all laughed -*• mueh when they saw the queer little black patch which was instead of his tail, that he grew sulky, and crept under a chair, sitting so that they could not -ee he had no tail. Poor little Pussy: It always -eemed -o -ad that he had no tail to run after. He u-ed to watch <*ther kittens playing with their own tail-. **r impudently biting their mother’- tail, and sometimes he even -cemed to -igh. He was so good when his mistress was ill. He would run up to her room, jump on the bed, ami lick her face, just as if he were trying to say, ‘ I’m sorry you can’t eome out with me in the ganien. ’ But Sam '-oald not bear to have anothei eat in the house : and he would chase them from rcom to room, until at length he drove them oat of the door. Then he would sit on the steps to keep wateh that they did not attempt to re-enter the bouse- Somehow the other cats seemed rather afraid of Sam. and would often run away from him ju-t a- if he was a small toy. One sad" day Sam died. He was buried in the garden under an oleander tree, and they put a nice little i-ar*i up by his grave, ami wrote on it : This is Sanimie. No tad bad he.
