THE WORKING BEE

A busy little person is the cheerful working-bee — I see her in the morning as she flies ahead of me. I often ‘wondered where she went and what she did and why, Till just the other morning came a fairy from the sky Who told me all about her, and of what she did and why. It seems she makes our honey in a place that’s called a comb ; She’s many other little friends around her in her home — A Queen Bee, so the fairy said, for whom they love to work, And many busy “working-bees,” and some who only shirk -- Some lazy bees who never do a particle of work! And many other things that fairy told to me —- How baby seeds would not be formed without the “working-bee.” She takes the pollen from the flowers, as gently as a mother. She does not tear their petals as she gives it to another. Whene’er I see her now I hail her, “Welcome Little Mother!” Molly Howden, Wellington.
