THE WAY OF THE ONE-PIECE FROCK
That Indespensible Garment he one-piece frock is probably the most important of all feminine garments to-day, and it is only in the variation of material and trimming that almost all occasions are catered for. For autumn zvear one is perfectly equipped zvith a frock that belongs to, or tones zvith, a smart costume coat, and yet can be zvorn under overcoat or raincoat without the bulkiness of _ the third garment—to suit the zvhims of the weather. The Fash able Line One of the most fascinating features of the nezv modes is the slender outline. Any fulness that has to be given to a garment is so cleverly concealed that it docs not in any zvay affect the trend of long lines. Pointed ends to scanty draperies help to accentuate the mode. Crepe Marocain Black crepe marocain is much favoured both for day and evening dresses. I have even seen this beautiful crepe in a heavy make used for smart tailor-mades, zvith collar or zvaistcoal of fur and intricate black silk braidings.
Sleeves Marked originality is seen in the treatment of cuffs. Some sleeves have tzvo —one at the wrist and the other at the elbow. Fur cuffs on zvinter coats are extended well past the elbozv. Embroidery Coloured Russian embroidery is a favourite trimming for coatf rocks; if acquires distinction from the zvay it is appliled. It may be used as an insertion to sleeves, placed in some unexpected position, and may entirely form the casaquin. The Untrimmed Neck-Line Braid is zvidely used, and silk stitching is applied so that it resembles braid. The neck-line of many gozvns is quite untrimmed. Uneven Hems This fashion for uneven hems has had a great deal to do zvith the popularising of the short jackets zoom by so many zoomen this season, for, as the designers of smart zvinter wraps arc beginning to discover, nothing looks so untidy or so incongruous as ragged draperies and pointed uneven hem lines appearing beneath the hem of a long coat.
