V allentine —Foster THE marriage took place recent--Vly of Miss Dorothy Hay Foster, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Foster, of “Coolangatta,” Remuera Road, to Mr. Edwin J. Vallentine, elder son of the late Mr. W. M. Vallentine, J.P., and

Mrs. Vallentine, of Breckin, Scotland. The bride was given away by her father. She was wearing a gown of ivory charmeuse arranged in panels, and her long train of lace was ornamented with a silver water-lily and clusters of orange blossom and white heather. Her veil, which had been worn by her sister, Mrs. Stephen Allen, at her marriage in England, was held in place by orange blossoms, and she carried a long-stemmed white rose surrounded by maidenhair fern, and a white prayer-book. Misses Esther Foster and Cecily O’Rorke, the two bridesmaids. wore frocks of blue georgette over satin. They also wore blue tulle veils and wide sashes of silver tissue with mauve and blue flowers. Little Joyce Key Jones and David Allen were the train-bearers. "Coolangatta” had been beautifully decorated with roses, cyclamen and other pink flowers for* the reception which followed the ceremony. Tyke, of Paicc Avenue, Mount Albert, to Mr. William J. Spring, only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Spring, of Stanley Bay, the Rev. H. B. Wingfield officiating.

The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a dress of white charmeuse with fringe panels and train. Her veil was fastened with orange blossoms. She carried a shower bouquet. The bridesmaids were Miss Rita Spring, sister of the bride-

groom, who wore mauve satin de soie, with silver hat, and Miss Beachen, niece of the bride, who wore crepe de chine, with silver hat. Both carried bouquets of mauve and pink flowers. Little Molly Kelly, who acted as trainbearer, was dressed in cream net with rosebuds, and carried a basket of flowers. Mr. Alfred Hocking acted as best man, and Mr. Stanley Simpson, cousin of the bride, as groomsman. The church, which had been decorated by girl friends of the bride, looked very pretty. and was much admired by the large number present, The reception of the large party of guests was afterwards held at the Domain Tea Kiosk, Mrs. Tyke received the guests, wearing a frock of silk brocade, and carrying a posy of violets. O’Bierne (Invercargill), royal blue silk, small hat to match; Mrs. E. H. Hart, black silk, black furs, and toque with touches of white. Other guests were Mrs. Macassey, ,senr., Mrs. A. R. Gard’ner. Cargill (of “The Cliffs”), and greaEgranddaughter of Captain Cargill, the founder and first Superintendent of Otago. The cathedral in which the ceremony took place was designed by the bride’s father, and Miss Isobel was the first member of the family to be married in it. Burns — Bowler TZ'NOX Church, Dunedin, was beautifully decorated on the occasion of the marriage of Miss Heather Bowler, only daughter of Mrs. Eden Bowler, Roslyn, to Mr. Kenneth Burns, of Cromwell. The bride wore a lovely frock of white satin lined with peach-coloured silk and veiled with pale blue georgette. Her bouquet .was a sheaf of lilies. Misses Mura R_eid and Dorothy Allen acted as bridesmaids, one frocked in pale blue and the other in peach-coloured taffeta. Their hats were of black crinoline straw trimmed with osprey feathers.

After the ceremony, Mrs. Bowler received her guests at “Mavora,” Roslyn, wearing a gown of black satin with touches of white, and large black hat with ostrich feathers. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Price, Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Bowler (Gore), Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fisher, Mr. and Mrs. James Begg, Mrs. D.
