District Nurses' Superannuation
The committee of the St. John Ambulance Association District Nursing Guild recently" held a special meeting to consider what steps could be taken to assist their nurses to obtain superannuation, as nurses m the Public Hospital service can do.
After much discussion and with expert advice it was decided to subsidise from the funds of the Association, the nurses' payments to the National Provident Fund. Unfortunately this will not render them eligible for
pension at the earlier age of 55 years, which lias been specially arranged for nurses, and which was clearly explained by Mr. Begg, of the Health Department, m an address published m last issue, but it may be possible later to obtain an amendment of the Act which would make the pension at 55 for all nurses m consideration of the nature of their work.
We note that at the first sitting of this session of Parliament, Sir George Hunter has again brought up the matter of superannuation of all nurses.
