State Examination of Maternity Nurses and Midwives
The quarterly examination was held on August Ist and 2nd. There were 45 candidates for the midwifery examination, 42 of whom passed and one failed in the written portion of the examination ; 34 passed with honours. Nurses Isabella Macdonald, R.N., of Whangarei Hospital, and Helen Elliot. R.N., of St. Helens, Wellington, passed first. All the candidates but one were regis-
tered nurses, showing that nurses are realising the value of midwifery training. There were 31 candidates for the maternity nurse certificate. Of these only 13 were not already registered general nurses ; 28 passed, 15 with honours, Nurse Rita Swindall, R.N., of Thames Hospital, first.
These excellent results show careful preparation of the pupils for both examinations.
