HAWKE'S BAY BRANCH.

The need of a room in which to hold their Association meetings, and also of a residential club, has been much felt in Hawke's Bay, and a small beginning has been made by establishing a club room, which is open, not only for meetings, but at certain hours, morning, afternoon and evening, when tea can be obtained from an attendant. The Napier City Council granted the Association tenancy of a large room in the Athenaeum Building free of rent for a year. The members set to work to have the room ready for the anniversary night, and are now the proud possessors of a well-furnished and attractive club room. One end of the room is screened off as a kitchenette, with a gas stove, and suite, and crockery cupboard. They also have a gas radiator to warm the room in winter. On July 17th, the fourth anniversary of the foundation of the Hawke'x Bay branch was celebrated by the opening of this room, when a social evening Avas held, Miss Macdonakl, the President, being hostess. The room was beautifully decorated and a delightful supper was served, the chief feature being a wonderful birthday cake presented by Mrs. R. Bestall. After a happy speech, outlining the purposes of the Club, by Miss Macdonald, the Mayor, Mr. J. Vigor Brown, cut the cake and declared the room open.
