On 24th September, Dr. Hall gave a most interesting lecture entitled li Sleep," which was much enjoyed by all. The majority of the nurses fortunately being able to be present, quite a large audience greeted the lecturer. This was the first lecture given in the new Club-Rooms, and all found it very comfortable. Dr. Hall has promised a copy of the lecture for Kai Tiaki, so any remarks on its interesting points would forestall the pleasure of reading it. The opening of the Nurses 1 Club took place on the 2nd October, the ceremony was performed by Dr. Valintine, Registrar of Xurses, when Miss Griffiths issued invitations to the nurses' friends, and Misses Holford and Ellis combined their club afternoon with Miss Griffiths, and the result was a most delightful gathering, about 1 30 guests responding to the invitations which we:e issued on such short notice. The Committee of the Social Club undertook the dispensing of the afternoon tea, and under Mrs. Fraser's capable management and those of her willing assistants, every guest, I am sure, was well looked after. Mrs. Fraser, who is the President of the Social Club, also undertook the providing of the music, and the orchestra (consisting of her lady friends) dispensed delightful music at intervals during the afternoon. Mrs. Brugh also contributed several songs, which were more than appreciated by the guests, this lady possessing a manner as pleasing as her voice is charming. As the Association's president aptly remarked: "The rooms being now open, guests could

wander upstairs and downstairs, or in my lady's chamber," which one and all did. The rooms were all found to be beautifully inviting, as Miss Dunsford had undertakeu the arranging of the flowers, no little corner one looked into but what sweet little scented blooms nodded a welcome. The Club now being established, we are hoping for many more enjoyable afternoons, when nurses will entertain their friends, and have as good a time as all did at the oflicial opening. Mrs. Fraser has been unanimously elected Vice-President of the Otago branch of the General Council, in place of Miss Jeffreys, whose resignation was received and accepted with deep regret by the Otago branch of the Nurses' Association. The members still hope that Miss Jeffreys will act as one of the delegates for the Dunedin Association at the first meeting of the General Council, shortly to be held in Wellington. A very pleasant evening was given at the Nurses' Club in August, before the regular opening, by Mrs. Butement and Mrs. Fraser, who spared no trouble to make everything a success. Miss Griffiths has a nice piano, the music was very good, and the little drawing-room play entitled " The Deceitful Misses Smith," was most laughable, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The dresses were so typical of the old spinsters of the period — about 60 years ago — that they caused as much mirth as the actual play. Miss Griffiths gave an excellent supper, so altogether, it was a delightful evening.
