Inquests.

An inquest was held at the Lunatic Asylum, on the 17th August, 1874, before 1 harles Lord Blakiston, Esq., J.P., Acting Coroner, upon the body of llobert Charles Knott, aged 44 years, wno died there the previous day. A post mortem examination showed death to have been the result of exhaustion, caused by syphilitic gangrene. The jury returned a verdict of Hied from natural causes.”

An inquest was held at Eangiora, on the 18th August, 1874, before Charles Dudley, Esq., Coroner, upon the body of Annie Hill, aged six months, who was found dead in bed with her mother. Dr. Burrows, who was called in to see deceased child, stated that she appeared to have been well cared for, and that she died from accidental suffocation. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the evidence.

An inquest was held at Ashbui’ton, on the 18th August, 1874, before Alfred Saunders, Esq., J.P., on the body of Alick Blaney, aged 27 years, whose body was found in a waterhole in the township on that day. Deceased had been drinking heavily prior to the 4th August, when he disappeared. The jury after hearing the evidence returned a verdict —“ That deceased drowned himself whilst in a state of delirium tremens , brought on by drinking adding a rider to their verdict “that the hole was dangerous, and requesting the Coroner to take steps to have it filled up.”

An inquest was held at Christchur. h, on the 21 st August, 1874, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq , Coroner, upon the body of Margaret Henshaw, aged 42, who died shortly after being confined of a child on the preceding day. After hearing the evidence of Sarah Craw, and Elizabeth Ford, two nurses who had been present at the time of death, the jury returned a verdict of—“ Died from natural causes.”

An inquest was held at Christchurch, on the 22nd August, 1874, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, upon the body of Fanny Eliza Amos, aged 8 years and 3 months, who died in consequence of severe scalding, caused by a kettle of boiling water falling off the fire upon her. The jury after heaving the evidence returned a verdict of — “ Accidental death.”

An inquest was held at Southbridge, on the 26th August, 1874, before W. B. Christie, Esq., J.P., upon the body of David Holmes Bell, an infant, aged 1 year and 10 months, who was found drowned in a creek at the end of the garden where he was playing. More than a quarter-of-an-hour elapsed between the time of his being missed and his body being found in the creek by his mother, when life was extinct. The jury returned a verdict of—“ Found drowned.”

An inquest was held at Woodend, on the 3rd inst., before Gf L. Mellish, Esq., lvesident Magistrate, on the body of Thomas Edlin, awed 38 years, who died suddenly on the Ist inst. Medical evidence went to show that deceased died from aneurism of t e aorta. The jury verdict of—- “ Died from natural causes.”
