Stolen.

Stolen, from the Belfast Factory, North Road, some time between the 25th and 28th April, 1874, a pair of white blankets. Not identifiable.

Stolen, from Leithfield, on the 2nd inst., a red cow, white star in forehead, branded D on olf rump, in full milk, the property of David Brown. Daniel O’Neil, Irish, 35 years, sft. llin., stout build, dark complexion, dark hair, large black whiskers, beard, and moustache, dressed in dark suit, and black billycock hat; a cattle dealer, who drove a mob to the West Coast about the time the cow was missed, is suspected.

Stolen, from the person of Frederick Pollard, of Lower Selwyn, whilst in Christchurch, about 10.30 p.m., on the 2nd inst., a colonial gold ring, weighing about 5 dwts., heart-in-hand device, value £2 155.; and five or six £1 notes. Ring only identifiable.

Stolen, from a bedroom in the Central Hotel, Christchurch, on the sth inst., two pairs of trousers, the property of John Hindley Eades, of Okain’s Bay. The trousers have since been found at Stewart’s pawn office, where they were pawned for 10s. by a man giving the name of Palmer; described as being about 26 years of age, sft. 9 or 10in., slender build, sandy complexion, respectable appearance, wore a light tweed coat, and black hat.

James, alias John Russell, alias Johnson, is charged on warrant from Dunedin, with forgery and uttering, there are three cases against him. Offender is a Scotchman, 27 years of age, about sft. 7in., stout build, sandy hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache, beard very heavy; dressed in suit of light grey tweed, speaks very fast, rather good looking, a surveyor, well known throughout the Dunstan district, Otago. He left Dunedin on the 25th April, by the Main North Road, riding a bay cob horse, hired of Mr McGrain, Dunedin, no brands, hind and off fore legs white, white face; supposed to be making for Oamaru and Canterbury.

Peter Curren is charged on warrant filed m Commissioner’s office, with wilfully harbouring and secreting a deserter from the ship Apelles , now lying in Lyttelton harbour. Curren is an Irishman, about 30 years of age, sft. 5 or 6in., fresh complexion, fair hair, inclined to be sandy, pockpitted, sunken cheeks, and high cheek bones, sandy whiskers no beard, small moustache, generally dressed m dark clothes, black billycock hat; a sailor.

Herrick Sundell, a Swede, 22 years, sft. 4 or 5m., fair complexion, fair hair, no beard’ whiskers, or moustache ; and G-eorge Cheek’ English, 19 years, sft. 4 or sin., dark complexion, dark hair, no whiskers, or moustache,

are charged with deserting from the ship Hudson, during the night of the 30th April. Captain Trewyn offers £2 each for their arrest.

William Yates, 21 years, sft. 9in., fair complexion, fair hair, no whiskers, beard, or moustache, dressed in white jumper, and cloth cap ; William Brinkle, 19 years, sft. 6in., fair complexion and hair, no beard, wdiiskers,or moustache, dressed in blue clothes; Alexander Davidson, Scotch, sft. 6in., fair hair and complexion, small moustache, wore canvas jacket; and John Kelly, Irish, sft. 8 or 9in., fair hair and complexion, small moustache, no whiskers, canvas trousers, are charged with deserting from the ship Apelles, on the 7th inst. They will probably make for some of the Immigrant depots, as a box painted green, belonging to one of the men is ascertained to have left the ship with some immigrants’ luggage.

On the 11th inst., about 10.30 p.m., a stack of wheat containing between three and four hundred bushels, the property of Thomas King, at Tai Tapu, was destroyed by fire. The wheat was not insured. The origin of the fire is unknown.
