Missing Friends.

Information is urgently desired as to the whereabouts of Robert Manisty, aged 26, sft. Bin. or 9in., stout build, fair complexion, fair hair, short sandy beard, whiskers and moustache, full face, weak eyes; is well educated, and very fond of drink; was last heard of in April, 1871, when he wrote from Greymouth, giving the address: W. Russella, Nelson Creek, Grey Valley.

Reverting to Criminal Offences, dated Christchurch, September 12, 1871, the chain described as having been lost from the old wharf, Ferry road, has been found near the place where the ketch Elizabeth was anchored, and has been returned to the owner.

Reverting to Criminal Offences, dated Lyttelton, 9tli February, 1871, the glazier’s diamond therein referred to has been found by Mr. Cummins, in a box into which it must have fallen out of his coat-pocket.

Reverting to form of inquirv for missing friend George Duckmanton, ke"is ascertained to have sailed for Melbourne.

Wanted to know the whereabouts, if alive, of William John Dowsley, who came out in 1363, from the town of Clonmel, Ireland, with the late Mr. Crosbie Ward, then the Postmaster-General of New Zealand ; was last heard of m Christchurch in October, 1864, when he spoke of joining the Auckland militia ; was in delicate health at that time. His friends wish any information whether he be alive or dead, in the form of an affidavit before some official or magistrate, that it may be used by his family, as property is depending on it.

Wanted an owner for a cheque for £5, drawn by Brown, in favour of Heron, and dated 14th September, 1872, which was picked up last month by Mr. Ball, publican, Woodend, and forwarded to the Police. Also, for the sum of ten shillings, in silver, which was found by Mr. Hall, railway porter at Kaiapoi, in a railway carriage, about a month ago.

Travelling expenses.

Witnesses residing at a distance exceeding one mile from the place of trial, expenses not exceeding Is. 6d. per mile one way.

If there is a steamer or coach or other public conveyance, either the whole or part of the way, the actual cost of such conveyance in lieu of mileage, Where they travel by water, fore-cabin fare will be allowed to the first and second class of witnesses, and chief-cabin fare to the latter classes.

Witnesses in the pay of the General or Provincial Governments will not be paid for their time, but only for extra costs occasioned by their attendance.
