NOTICE OF FEEE PABDON. Colonial Secretary’s Office, (Judicial Branch.) Wellington, 17th April, 1871. Whereas a Fire, supposed to have been caused by the act of an incendiary, Occurred on the morning of the 12th inst., on the farm of Mr. William Eeid, in the Province of Canterbury, whereby two blocks of stacks were burnt. It is hereby notified that his Excellency the Glover nor will grant a Free Pardon to any accomplice in such act, not being a principal offender, who shall give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the principal offender or offenders, or any of them, if more than one.

A Warrant has been issued by the Christchurch Bench for the arrest of Peter Goodwin, for neglecting to obey an order made by the Besident Magistrate, to pay a sum of ten shillings per week towards the support of his illegitimate child. Description of offender-.—A native of County Mayo, Ireland, about 27 years of age, oft. 7in. hio-h, full face, dark complexion, dark beard* whiskers, and moustache, walks lame with his rignt leg, a labourer, generally dresses in monkey jacket, moleskin trousers, watertight boots, and Scotch cap, or felt hat.

Charles Newman is charged on Warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with failing to comply with an order made by the Bench, for the support of his wife and family. Description : —An Englishman, 36 years of age, sft. 4in. high, medium build, dark complexion, black hair and whiskers, full face, brown eyer, scar across upper lip, little finger of left hand contracted, dresses in dark tweed suit, and black felt hat, a labourer by trade. Warrant in Commissioner’s office.

A Warrant has been issued by the Bench at Christchurch, for the arrest of Frederick Bowdler, charged with disobeying a summons for committing a breach of the peace. Description: —A Londoner, a sailor, 25 years of age, sft. Bin. high, stout build, dark complexion, dark brown hair, no hair worn on face, high cheek bones, carries his head a little forward when walking, dressed in dark monkey jacket, Bedford cord trousers, black felt hat, Crimean shirt, all nearly new, smart appearance,- is very talkative, and frequents public houses. Warrant filed in Commissioner’s office.

On the evening of the 14th ult., Charles H. Nielsen the mate, and George Webb a seaman, on board brigantine Ottawa, lying at Timaru, left the s.s. Beautiful Star to return to their vessel, both men had been drinking, and were very quarrelsome. The men did not return to their vessel, and next morning their boat was found two miles away, with Webb’s hat, Neilsen’s scarf, and a bottle of brandy in it. A portion of Webb’s body has since been recovered. There were spots of blood on the gunwale of the boat when picked up, which leads to the belief that the men quarrelled and fell overboard together, or, that Neilsen murdered Webb, and left the locality immediately.

[Extract from Victoria Police Gazette , 1871, page 66.] Joseph Cohen is charged on Warrant with the embezzlement of £2O from Eeinhold Eckmann, at Melbourne, on the 11th March, 1871. He is a Clerk, aged 22 years, sft. 9 or lOin. high, slim build, dark complexion, dark hair, cut short, slight moustache, dark eyes, Jewish appearance, wore dark paget coat, dark trousers, and drab felt hat. Offender left Melbourne in the steamer Gothenburg, on the 18th March, for New Zealand, stowed away by the first steward.

During the night of the 18th ult., two hogsheads of beer, the property of E. Belgrave, Saxon Hotel, Lyttelton, which were left out of doors, were maliciously tapped and the whole of the beer lost.
