Stolen.

Stolen from the shop of Arthur Postle, Papanui, on the 16th February, 1871, a small pasteboard bos, with glass top, 12in. x 4in., the glass cracked, containing one ovalshaped gilt brooch, imitation white cornelian and green stones ; one small button-shaped gold-washed brooch, with mulberry-coloured stone; one gilt brooch, smaller size than first, blue stones and imitation pearls in centre; one blue and white silk belt, steel clasp fastening; one violet and white ditto, steel clasp; two green satin belts, with gilt clasp in shape of a half-moon; two brown ditto, similar fastening; one violet-coloured ditto, slightly faded by the sun —all identifiable. A man of the following description suspected:—30 years of age, sft. 9in. high, slender build, fair hair, fair complexion, fair goatee beard; dressed in tight-fitting moleskin trousers, narrow striped shirt, with anchor worked on each breast, high-crowned light felt hat, lightcoloured coat and light-coloured sash; the appearance of a labourer.

Stolen, on the afternoon of the 23rd ult., from the waistcoat pocket of James Jamieson, of Windmill road, an open-faced silver lever watch; maker’s name, John Forrest, No. 12507; identifiable. Jamieson was at work in a building, and hung up his waistcoat with the watch in it, and did not discover his loss till leaving his work.

Reverting to “ Criminal Offence,” dated Christchurch, the Cow therein described has been recovered, and Joseph Abbott, arrested by Constable Thoreau, convicted at the Supreme Court of the theft, and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, with hard labour.
