List of Appointments, &c., since the publication of the last list: — PROMOTIONS. Second-class Sergeants Daniel Niall and George Beatty to be First-class Sergeants. Third-class Sergeant Sweedland E. Horniman to be Second-class Sergeant. ' Second-class Constables John Loftus Campbell, William O’Connor, and Alexander Wilson to be Eirst-class Constables.

The offender, Thomas O’Brien, charged on warrant with assaulting Constable Emerson while in the discharge of his duty, has been arrested.

A Warrant has been issued by the Akaroa Bench for the apprehension of one Richard Wallis M. G. Mant, charged with forgery. He is about 20 years old, five feet five inches high, fair complexion, no whiskers or moustache, stout build, youthful appear-

ance, wears monkey jacket, cord trousers, and black cloth cap with French peak. (Since arrested by the Leithfield police.

A Wake ant has been issued by the Lyttelton Bench for the apprehension of one Charles Miller, charged with obtaining goods by false pretences from Bichard Brooke, London-street, Lyttelton. He is a Dane, a seaman, 35 years of age, five feet four inches high, short build, rather round shoulders, light brown hair, small eyes, deep set, short black moustache, beard and whiskers, grown short and thick, dressed in blue cloth coat, light tweed trousers blue cloth cap brass buttons and French peak. Left Lyttelton for Sydney by the ship John Knox, on the 3rd instant; he is well known at Wooloomooloo, having lived there some years.

A Waebant has been issued by the Hokitika bench for the apprehension of G-eorge Maggs, charged with wife desertion. He is an Englishman, 45 years old, five feet six inches high, stout build, grey hair and whiskers, dressed in brown or grey clothes, supposed to be nearly blind. He resided in Kevell-street, Hokitika, for some time, but left it about April last. Is supposed to be at the Buller.

Wheeeas on the night of the 9th or morning of the 10th April, 1867, a young man named Charles William Sydney Smith was barbarously murdered in hia own house in the Victoria Valley, near Mongonui Notice is hereby given that a Reward of £IOO will be paid by Government to any person or persons giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the murderer or murderers. Extract from Otago Police Gazette, October 1 1867, No. 10, page 52. MISSING FBIENDS. Ineobmation is requested respecting James Straiton, aged about 30 years, and of dark complexion (no further description given), who arrived in Victoria from Glasgow four or five years ago, and held several situations in Ballarat, but ultimately came to New Zealand; when last heard of in October 1864, he was in the Dunstan district, Otago.
