Inquests.
An Inquest was held at Ross on the 30th August, before Samuel Beswick, Esq., Coroner, on the body
of Peter Oustin, aged 35, a miner, who was killed by a quantity of earth falling upon him while working in a drive. Verdict accordingly.
An Inquest was held at Kakahu, Geraldine, on the 2nd October before H. Belfield, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Alexander Mein, labourer, aged 18 years, who died from the effects of falling off a dray. Verdict—Accidental death.
An Inquest was held at Papanui on the 3rd inst., before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Jesse Smith, gardener, aged 77, who died from rupture of the heart. Verdict—Died from Natural Causes.
An Inquest was held at Kaiapoi on the Bth inst., before C. Dudley, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Benjamin Hill Humpage, surgeon, aged 30 years, who died from the effects of poison. Verdict—Accidentally poisened by deceased administering to himself an overdose of laudanum when in a state of intoxication. #
An Inquest was held at Christchurch on the 16th ult., before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, on the body of James Eaton, aged 70 years, a farmer, who died from a fracture of the skull. Verdict—Died from a fracture of the skull, how obtained there is no evidence to show.
An Inquest was held at Governor Bay, Lyttelton, on the Bth October, before TV. Donald, Esq., Coroner, on the body of William Sparks, aged 33 years, labourer, who was killed by a fall from a horse. Verdict—Accidental death.
An Inquest was held at Kaiapoi on the 9th inst., befoi’e C. Dudley, Esq., Coroner, on the body of James Wilson, aged two years, who died from the effects of burns. Verdict —Accidental death.
