A warrant has been issued by the Hokitika Bench for the apprehension of one Anna Maria O’Neil, an actress, charged with having between 10 a.in. of the 2nd and 9 a.m. of the sth instant, stolen moneys to the amount of about £270, consisting of two £2O notes, ten £lO notes, and about thirty sovereigns, and over £IOO in £5 and £1 notes ; the property of Martin Henry Kelly, Hibernian Hotel, Hokitika, from a drawer in a chest of drawers in Mrs. Kelley’s bedroom. It has been ascertained that on the morning of the 3rd inst. Mrs. O’Neil changed £l7O in notes for gold at the Bank of New Zealand, and Mrs. O’Neil, the same morning, obtained gold for £6O in notes. Mr. and Mrs. O’Neil left Hokitika for Melbourne per the Eangitoto on the 3rd inst. Warrant forwarded to Melbourne.

A warrant has been issued by the Hokitika Bench tor the apprehension of Samuel Lofquest, charged paving deserted his children, Augustus, John, and William Lofquest. He is a Swede, about 46 years old, o ieet 9 inches high ; dark complexion ;

stout build • brown hair, full beard, whiskers, and moustache, blue eyes; a carpenter by trade: dressed iu grey tweed suit, wideawake hat, and watertight boots. Supposed to be at Greymouth or Scandanavian Hill.

A warrant has been issued by tne iimaru Bench foi the apprehension of one Hector McKay, charged with wife desertion. He is a Scotchman, aged 37 years, 5 feet 6 inches high ; sallow complexion, dark brown hair, dark beard and moustache, Roman nose, blue eyes ; ’stout build ; one shoulder lower than the other, 'through having been dislocated ; a blacksmith by trade : dressed in dark grey jumper, gyey tweed trousers, lace-up boots, and new black felt hat. Left Timaru by steamer AVamui lor Lyttelton on the 29th ult.

Extract from Victoria Police Gazette, p. 270, 1866. Ellis Piggott is charged on warrant with deserting his wife at Collmgwood about four years ago. He is a labourer, aged 33 years, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build; fair complexion, sandy whiskers round the face, no moustache, and very curly brown hair. The complainant, Nancy Pigott, since reports that she has been informed that her husband was one of the Victorian Contingent, and was shot ill New Zealand during the last war.

Information is requested respecting Robert Harvey Steel, of Bury, St. Edmunds, who left England in May, 1862, in the ship “ Netherby,” bound for Adelaide: he stopped at Melbourne, and remained at Morton’s Hotel, Bourke Street west, in some employment until August, 1863, -when he joined the Ist Waikato Regiment, and proceeded to Auckland. Llis last letter is dated “ Camp Otahuhu, March 7th, 1864.” He had hern wounded in an engagement with the Maories, and was three months in Hospital, when he was about to be discharged from lameness. Steel proposed returning to Melbourne about the latter end of March, 1864, but there is no trace of his arrival on the passenger lists about that period. The description and calling of the missing friend has not been furnished. Information to the Superintendent of Detective Department, Melbourne, or to the Commissioner of Police, Auckland.
