Objective : Surrendered Crown leases accepted at request of lessee. No development meantime, as future utilization is being discussed with New Zealand Forest Service and other interested Departments to determine whether any area should be retained for farming or whether total area should be used for afforestation. Pending decision on utilization, 3,000 acres approximately is used for wintering cattle. Windermere, at Havelock North, 33 acres. Acquired : September, 1949. Objective: Three orchard units for disposal May, 1950. Development Programme: No development, as orchard in full production and two units being allotted without houses. Taranaki Land District Aroto, at Waitara, 204 acres. Acquired : June, 1949. Objective : Two dairy-farms for allotment July, 1950. Development Programme : 5 acres new grass, 85 chains new fence, 25 chains repairs to existing fence, one new dwelling, two cow-sheds, and one implement-shed. Sink one well and reconstruct spring water-supply. Progress : New grass completed, one dwelling and two cowsheds almost completed, implement-shed completed, well and water-supply completed.
