No. 65/1939.—Petition of G. J. Silver, of Belmont, Auckland. Praying for compensation for alleged wrongful arrest and imprisonment. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make 21st August, 1940.

No. 3.—Petition of Harriet Ellen Vanstone, Widow, Mount Pleasant, Little River, Canterbury. Praying that the ownership of her late husband's property be restored to her. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 21st August, 1940.

No. 28.—Petition of W. T. Morpeth, Broadmore Street, New Plymouth. Praying for refund of income-tax and unemployment tax allegedly overpaid in 1934, 1 am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 22nd August, 1940.

No. 76. —Petition of L. W. O'Brien, Karangahake. Praying that he be provided with light work at an adequate remuneration, or other relief, owing to inability to resume his former occupation on account of injuries sustained while engaged' on roadconstruction works. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 22nd August, 1940.

No. 62/1939.—Petition of Tauranga County Council, of Tauranga, and 5 Other Adjacent Local Authorities. Praying that the construction of the road leading from the Waihi-Whakatane State Highway to Mount Maunganui be undertaken by the Main Highways Board. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 22nd August, 1940.

No. 70/1939. —Petition of Maggie Thompson, of Pakowhai, Hastings. Praying for compensation for loss sustained on account of alleged forced sale of a .business. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 29th August, 1940.

No. 25.—Petition of T. F. Simpson, 94 Oban Street, Wadestown, Wellington. Praying for investigation of his plans for assisting the war effort. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 2nd October, 1940.

No. 296/1934—Petition of W. H. Overton, of Queenstown, and 368 Others. Praying that the Borough of Queenstown be excluded from the Power Board area. I have the honour to report that the member in charge of the petition having expressed a desire to withdraw same, the Committee recommends that he be allowed to do so. 3rd October, 19-10.

No. 5/1939.—Petition of Westland Power, Limited, of Westland. Praying for liquidation of certain liabilities in connection with an undertaking to generate and supply electricity in the Westland Power Board District. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration with a view to the acquisition by the Government of the assets of the company. 3rd October, 1940.
