No. 259/1927. —Petition of Ihapera Taikato and 5 Others. Praying that a block of land known as Te Moari No. 56, Block VII, Kaeo Survey District, may be returned to them. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 20th October, 1927. Petroleum Bill. I am directed to report that the Native Affairs Committee, to which was referred the Petroleum Bill, has duly considered the same, and it recommends that the Bill be amended in the following particulars : — (1) As to clause 5, paragraph (c) : That this be omitted, and provision substituted on the lines of section 30 of the Mining Act, 1926. (2) As to clause 24, subclause (2) : That it be made quite clear that the provisions of section 91 of the Public Works Act, 1908, shall apply. (3) As to clause 26, paragraph (d) : That this be amended to provide for payment to such person or body as the Native Land Court may direct. (4) As to clause 29, subclause (3) : That this should provide for the notice to be given to the Maori Land Boards, whose duty it should be to notify the persons interested. 26th October, 1927. No. 284/1927. —Petition of Ngapine Ruri. Praying for inquiry into succession to Timotuha Ruri Harete (deceased), in order to ensure the claims of an adopted child, named Wiremu Williams, being recognized. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion this petition should be referred to the Government for inquiry. 28th October, 1927.
