No. 3of Session 11, 1923.—Petition of James Wall and 18 Others, of Pukerua. (Second Report.) Praying that the Government construct a road and bridge over railway at Pukerua. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this is not a matter for its consideration, and accordingly it has no recommendation to make. 3rd November, 1924.

No. 295.— Petition of Isabella Rutherford Ward, of Christchurch. Praying for a compassionate allowance, in addition to the £1,000 already granted her, for loss of husband in North Island Main Trunk Railway accident. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 3rd November, 1924.

No. 383.—Petition of John Neil, of Manawaru. Praying for a compassionate allowance for injuries sustained in North Island Main Trunk Railway accident. I am directed to report that the Committee has carefully considered the above petition, and, in view of the special circumstances of the case, it is of opinion that the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 4th November, 1924.

No. 393. —Petition of Harry Flay, Jun., of Te Aroha. Praying for a compassionate allowance for injuries sustained in the North Island Main Trunk Railway accident. I am directed to report that the Committee has carefully considered the above petition, and, in view of the special circumstances of the case, it is of opinion that the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 4th November, 1924.

Special Report. I am directed to report that the Railways Committee desires to place on record its high appreciation of the capable and impartial manner in which the Chairman (Mr. Witty) has presided over its deliberations during the session, and that this resolution be recorded in the minutes and reported to the House. 4th November, 1924.
