Gibson, on the 28th May, and shortly afterwards a heavy south-east squall came up and it continued to blow hard until next day. On the 31st May the hghtkeeper at Farewell Spit sighted a wreck, which proved to be the " Southern Isle," but there was no sign of the crew.
