McLean, A.B. .. j Injured wrist .. Napier .. Napier .. When mooring the ship a bight in the line caused him to receive a severe blow. Whilst fixing the hatches he fell into the hold and sustained injuiies from which he died on 15th June. Cut his hand when cleaning knives. When cutting bread the knife slipped and severely cut his left hand. Died from fracture; of the skull caused by the machinery of the vessel starting when he was working at it. The jury found that no blame was attachable to any one. Whilst the stevedores were discharging a heavy lift from the hold a ring-bolt in the shre of the derrick broke and caused the heel of the derrick to jump out of the shoe and break through the starboard skylight, striking Doherty, who was working below, and killing him on the spot.
