No. 491 (1907). —Petition of Hoiiepa Kahukura and 96 Others, of Wairoa, Hawke's Bay. Petitioners pray for readjustment of relative interests in Hereheretau Nos. 2 and 2a Blocks. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make on this petition. 10th October, 1907.

No. 712 (1907). —Petition of Mereana Paraea (Mrs. Bryers), of Omapere, Bay of Islands. Petitioner prays that a portion of land may be given her as a landless Native. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 10th October, 1907.

No. 122 (1906). —Petition of Tuiti Macdonald and Another, of Wairau, Marlborough. Petitioners pray for legislation to grant a rehearing of the succession claim to Heni Hekiera, deceased, and also for compensation. I am directed to report that this Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to the prayer of the petitioners, but is of opinion that the Government should take into consideration the general principles enunciated by the Appellate Court, with a view to placing the law with regard to the rights of adopted Maori children and the adopting parents on a more satisfactory 15th October, 1907.

No. 412 (1907). —Petition of Tawhi Paranihi and 6 Others. Petitioners pray that the House will order the cancellation of the orders and certificates of title of the Native Land Court in respect of the several subdivisions of the Okahukura Block. I am directed to report that this petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, with a recommendation that remedial legislation be introduced on the lines as suggested by the contending parties (a copy of which is attached hereto). 24th October, 1907.
