McLean, j u n. ; 20 years 22nd February, 1907 : his head was dashed against a large steam-pipe, death being instantaneous McLean was engaged oiling the bearings of the shafting. The loose coat he was wearing got caught in a coupling on the shaft, and wound him round the shaft. His head was dashed against a large steam-pipe as he was carried round, causing his death. Wood was employed at the emery wheel grinding caststeel balls in the rough state about 2\ in. in diameter. He was thus employed when the ball he was grinding slipped out of his hands. It rolled between the base of the machine and the righthand side of the emery wheel, the space between the base of the machine and the wheel being 1J in., the ball being larger in diameter than the space in width jammed the wheel, causing its fracture. A portion of it struck Wood on the head, causing fatal injuries. W. Sneddon, Vogel Street, Dunedin Emery-grinder ..
