No. 201, 1905.—Petition of Noa Wakaatere and 9 Others. Pbtitionehs pray that a sum of £500 be granted to them as a reward for military services. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition should be referred to the Government. 22nd August, 1905.

I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to these petitions, but, with a view to finality being arrived at in the case in question, it recommends that the evidence taken should be printed. 24th August, 1905.

Petitioners pray that a Royal Commission may be set up to inquire into Mr. Humphries' grievances in connection with his dealings in Native lands. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that the Government should be asked to bring in legislation this session empowering a Judge of the Supreme Court to determine issues to be submitted to him, and whose decision shall be final and conclusive. 30th August, 1905.

No. 142, 1905.—Petition of Kaea Rowe (Willison) and Another, of Urenui, Taranaki. Petitioners pray for rehearing in connection with succession to the late Harawira Mokena as to Native lands in the Waitara Survey District. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government, with the recommendation to introduce legislation declaring that the appeal upon the appointment of successors to the late Harawira Mokena, alleged to have been disposed of in the unavoidable absence of the parties thereto, or some of them, is still subsisting and undis-posed-of, and that the Chief Judge of the Native Land Court be authorised and directed to dispose of the same. sth September, 1905,
