No. 278, 1902.—Petition of Ratana Tamaho and 25 Others. Petitioners pray for a subsidy for a ferry-boat at Whangape, Hokianga. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 4th August, 1903.

[Translation.] No. 278, 1902. —Pitihana a Ratana Tamaho me etahi atu c rua tekau ma rima. E inoi ana nga kai-pitihana kia hoatu he moni hei tautoko i te pere-poti o Whangape, Hokianga. Kua whakahaua ahau kia ki penei, kite whakaaro o te Komiti me tuku atu tenei pitihana ki te Kawanatanga kia uiuia paitia. 4 o Akuhata, 1903.

No. 259, 1902.—Petition of Ngarangi Katitia. Petitioner refers to his petition of 1895, in which he prays for investigation in connection with ownership of the Manawapou Block, between Whenuakura and Waitotara; and prays for consideration. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that the recommendation made on the petition referred to —viz., that inquiry be made by the Magistrate of the district—should be given effect to as soon as possible. 4th August, 1903.

No. 156, 1902.—Petition of Te Pakoura and 15 Others. Petitioners pray for refund of moneys paid in connection with the.Ruatoki cases before the Native Land Courts, on the ground that the Court acted without jurisdiction, and the said cases were absolutely fruitless. I am directed to report that the Committee strongly recommends that the costs and deposit in connection with the case before the Appellate Court, amounting to £55 2s , should be refunded. 4th August, 1903. —

No. 271, 1903. —Petition of Heni te Rau (Mrs. Brown), of Kohimarama, Auckland. (No. 2.) Petitioner prays that an award, by the West Coast (North Island) Commission, of 3,000 acres of land, made in 1867, to the Ngatimutunga Hapu, may be carried into effect. I am directed to report that, as it appears that the land set aside to meet the award referred to has been otherwise disposed of, the Committee strongly recommends that the Government should allocate other land equal in value to the 3,000 acres which should have been given to Ngatimutunga, and hand the same over to the survivors of that hapu. 4th August, 1903.
