No. 40.—Petition of Geace Fox, of Waiapu. Petitionee prays that university examinations may continue to be held at Gisborne. I am directed to report that the Committee recommend that the five (5) districts proposed by the University Senate to be abolished be retained; that the Government be recommended to hold Matriculation and Civil Service Examinations, &c, whereever there are high schools. 7th September, 1900.

No. 38.—Petition of Vincent Bakeb and Others, of Gisborne. Petitionees pray that Gisborne be retained as a place where the law professional examinations may be held. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that the five (5) districts proposed by the University Senate to be abolished be retained ; that the Government be recommended to hold Matriculation and Civil Service Examinations, &c, where ever there is a high school. 7th September, 1900.

No. 41. —Petition of John Huntee Beown and 183 Others, of Wairoa. Petitionees pray that £1 for £1 be given by the Government for the improvement of Wairoa Harbour. I am directed to report that the Committee recommend the petition to the favourable consideration of Government. 7th September, 1900.

No. 232.—Petition of John Lawson, of Auckland. Petitionee prays that certain money due to Oliver Mason Creagh (bankrupt) be paid to petitioner for and on behalf of the creditors of O. M. Creagh. I am directed to report that the petition be referred to the Government, with the recommendation that the amount of £273 9s. 4d. be paid to the petitioner. 11th September, 1900.

No. 326.—Petition of E. P. Beadley, of Manganui. Petitionee prays for refund of certain costs incurred by him in the Magistrate's Court. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 13th September, 1900.

No. 229. —Petition C. A. Harming, of Southland. Petitionee prays for relief for injuries received while in Government employ. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 13th September, 1900.

No. 88.—Petition of G. H. Allen and Others, of Aorere. Petitionees pray for the erection of a cart bridge over the Aorere Eiver, near Collingwood. I am directed to report that the Committee recommend that the petition be referred to the Government. 13th September, 1900.

No. 168.—Petition of J. Baccich and Others, of Herekino. Petitioners pray that letters of naturalisation be granted to them. I am directed to report that the Committee recommend that letters of naturalisation be issued to the five Austrians who have complied with the law, and that the sixth be informed that he will be naturalised on his application papers being put in as having complied with the law, and furnishing a certificate made and signed by a Magistrate (J.P. or S.M). 13th September, 1900.

No. 316.—Petition of D. W. Gunn and 172 Others, of Nelson. Petitionees pray for the establishment of Inebriate Homes. I am directed to report that the Committee recommend this petition be referred to the Government. 13th September, 1900.

No. 443.—Petition of H. Bolliwell and 64 Others, of Wellington. Petitionees pray that shelter-sheds do remain as they are at present. I am directed to report that, it being a matter of policy, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 13th September, 1900.

No. 211.—Petition of Young Hee and 541 Others. Petitionees pray that an Act be passed prohibiting or limiting the importation of opium, and controlling the use and sale thereof. I am directed to report that the Committee recommend the prayer of this petition to the favourable consideration of the Government. 13th September, 1900.
