I think this is a specially heavy calamity that requires all possible assistance, and I am in favour of the Government giving a substantial grant from the Consolidated Fund, and I hope this will be done. In my judgment, any grant out of Consolidated Fund towards charitable aid outside colony, whether on account of famine, fires, or other disasters, unjustifiable. B. Stevens.
