SCHEDULE No. 2. Claims under Act of 1892. The accompanying schedules complete the list of claims rejected by the several Commissioners of Crown Lands up to the present date, and a fairly correct estimate can now be arrived at of those claims requiring revision. The gross total of claims is 562. 211 can be disposed of as follows, viz.: — Volunteers who have not proved five years' service to entitle them to further consideration ... ... ... 140 Claimants who have not complied with the Acts ... ... 71 211 351 cases remain for revision, subject, however, to a reduction of about seventy claims representing Militia service, and other cases under the head of " character." This estimate will leave a net total of, say, 280 claims under the Act of 1892 to be considered and dealt with. To recognise the claims and deal with them on their merits, legislation will be necessary in that direction. These claims are irrespective of those special cases which are in a separate schedule.

Memorandum of Claims scheduled. Claimants not having five years' continuous efficient Volunteer service ... 140 Claimants technically barred ... ... ... ... ... 150 Claimants rejected on the question of " character" on discharge... ... 54 Claimants who have not complied with the Acts ... ... ... 71 Miscellaneous claims, including Militia service ... ... ... 147 Total number of claims inquired into and rejected by the several Commissioners under the provisions of "The Naval and Military Settlers'and Volunteers'Land Act, 1892 " ... ... ... 562
