RECEIPTS BY LOCAL BODIES FROM THE GENERAL GOVERNMENT (FOR FINANCIAL YEARS 1882-83 AND 1883-84).

Beturn to an Order of the Souse of Representatives, dated 21st July, 1885. Ordered, " That a return be laid before tho House showing the several aums of money received during the financial years 1882-83 and 1883-84 respectively, from the General Government, by the various County Councils, Eoad Boards, Town Boards, and Borough Councils in the colony."—(Me. [Payments were made on account of grants under Eoads and Bridges Construction Act, rates under Crown Native Lands Eating Act, thirds of sales of land on deferred payments, grants for roads to open up lands for sale, gold duty, goldfields revenue, fees and fines under " The Financial Arrangements Act, 1876 ;" public works grants under vote for main roads, and miscellaneous items such as payments to boroughs for gas and water, &c]
