Retuen showing—(l) The Amount of Rates which would be leviable in each Road Board District, County, and Borough had "The Rating Act, 1876," not been repealed; (2) the amount of Rates leviable in each Road Board District, County, and Borough under " The Rating Act, 1882 ; " (3) a Comparative Statement as to how the Valuations male under "The Property-Tax Act, 1879," and "The Rating Act, 1882," financially affect each Road Board, County, and Borough ; (4) the Cost in each County, Road Board District, or Borough, of making the Assessment for the Year 1882-83, under "The Property-Tax Act, 1879," and " The Rating Act, 1882." Note.—The rateable value under " The Rating Act, 1876," has been taken from the last returns available Where no rates have been levied, the annual value has been obtained from the property-tax assessment of 1880, a. shilling rate on the annual value being contrasted with its equivalent of three farthings on the capital value. The rateable value under " The Bating Act, 1882," includes the value of Crown and Native lands, so far as at present determined. These are at present under reference to the Survey and Crown Lands Departments for revision, and are subject to the corrections which may be made by these departments. The cost of the assessment would have been practically the same without the valuation for local rating purposes.
