signed a petition in favour of my restoration wholly without my interference, and a large majority of the House of Representatives, including three practising barristers, voted for a Bill for that purpose. 8. In reply to the affidavit sworn by Henry Howorth and filed herein, I say that the paper writing marked " X," exhibited to me at the time of swearing this my affidavit, is a true copy of a declaration made by John Jones Cleave, of the Inner Temple, barrister-at-law, and which declaration was laid before the Judges in support of my petition presented in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty-four, and afterwards, together with the other papers, laid before the House of Representatives and there lost. That I have inquired at the Attorney-General's office, where the said papers were deposited and kept, and from which department I received back most of the other papers, and I was told that the said declaration could not be found.
