No. 7. COMPARATIVE STATEMENT OF MAIL CONTRACTS THROUGHOUT THE COLONY OF NEW ZEALAND FOR THE FINANCIAL YEARS 1861-2, 1862-3, 1863-4.

Circular instructions were issued on the 16th July, 1863, for Returns of Mail Contracts. Wellington, Nelson, and Pieton, arc the only Provinces that have furnished this information as yet. On the arrival of the " Auckland" and " Lady Bird," probably all the Returns will come to hand. The accompanying Statement is compiled from various sources of information; but there are at present no data in this Department sufficient to make this Return strictly accurate. Note.—-Province of Southland: —The first column is filled up from amounts already authorized; but we have not been advised as yet respecting the Mail Contracts. ROBERT S.
