CORRESPONDENCE RESPECTING PECUNIARY ALLOWANCE TO NAVAL OFFICERS IN NEW ZEALAND.

Downing-street, Utk October, 1855. Sib, —I am directed by Secretary Sir William Molesworth to transmit to you for the consideration of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, the enclosed copy of a Despatch from the Acting Governor of New Zealand, forwarding an application from Commander Drury, of H. M. Surveying Vessel " Pandora," to the effect, that the Naval Forces on the coast of New Zealand should be placed on an equally favourable footing with regard to their pay, as H M. ships on the Sydney and Melbourne Stations, who appear to receive additional pay by vote of the respective Colonial Legislatures equal to the ordinary pay. It appear to Sir William Molesworth that this application is reasonable, and he would be glad to receive their Lordships' views with regard to it. I am also directed to request, that you will call the attention of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to the favourable testimony borne by Acting Governor Wynyard to the valuable services rendered by Commander Drury, and by those serving under him, to the Colony of New Zealand. 1 am, &c., (Signed) H. M ships on the Sydney and Melbourne Stations ; I am commanded by m.y Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you for the information of Sit William Molesworth, that they have no objection to his proposal, it being distinctly understood that the additional expense is to be defrayed entirely out of Colonial Funds.
